Leopard 1
-
Revell
03240
- a completely new-tooled kit depicting an early Leopard 1 (batch 2 or 4)
- contains optional parts for German, Belgian or Dutch vehicles but decals are only available for
German vehicles
- contains vinyl tracks depicting Diehl 139E2 tracks (chevron track blocks)
- two Leopard Club reviews are available - one
authored by Kenneth Østergaard
and another
authored by Jürge Schulz
- a very thorough
in box review
(courtesy of Armorama)
may also be consulted for further information
-
Tamiya 35064
- represents a 1st batch vehicle
- a very old kit, with outdated details and 3 major mistakes
Leopard 1A1A1 (-A1A4)
-
Revell 3017
- cooperative effort with Italeri (A2)
- based on the Italeri A4 hull
- not a bad kit considering its age
Leopard 1A1 / A2
-
Heller 81125
- scrap, but still the best cast turret shape available in plastic (Note: this comment was written prior to the
release of the Meng, Takom or the Revell early Leo 1 kits)
- there is an
excellent and very in depth review
available at Armorama (the reviewer states that the only high point of the kit is that it mostly
looks like a Leopard)
-
Revell
03258
Leopard 1A2
-
Italeri 374
- basically the same as the Revel 1A1A1 (see notes for Revell)
- more an A1, not an A2
Leopard 1A3
-
Meng Model TS-007
Please refer to the notes below ...
-
Nichimo 3533
- a very old kit with average details for the time
- definitely made obsolete by the Meng 1A3/4
- another alternative to this kit would be to use a Revell or Italeri hull with little modification and the
excellent 1A3 turret from Perfect Scale Modellbau 35020)
Leopard 1A4
-
Italeri 224 - also released as Revell H-2126 in Germany
-
the best Leopard 1A4 available for nearly three decades, but it is starting to show its
age (the industry has evolved a lot in the past 30 years)
- despite its age, it is quite a good kit ... the weld line detail is quite nice (for example)
- the hull parts of this kit are the basis for all Italeri and Revell Leopard 1 kits
- the vinyl tracks are very stiff, and it is hard to get them to conform to the road wheels realistically
-
MBK Models
MBK35224
- an injection molded plastic model kit, a re-issue of the Italeri kit (224 noted immediately above)
-
Meng Model TS-007
- read the Leopard Club review
- the kit includes parts to build either a 1A3 or a 1A4
- a new tool Leopard 1 kit in injection molded plastic with photo-etched parts and vinyl tracks
(though individual links are also provided)
- the tropical cooling intake grill is also included as PE parts (the Australian AS1 featured
such a grill)
- a PZB-2000 and protective cage are included (C1 anyone?)
- the kit features working torsion bar suspension
- markings include Bundeswehr and the Hellenic Army
-
Tamiya 35112
- of a similar vintage as the Italeri A4 but clearly inferior in details and parts
-
Academy 1312/TA028
- a poor quality copy of the Tamiya kit
-
Heller 81136 (new edition kit number)
- scrap, even the second edition kit with metal parts
Leopard 1A5
-
Hobby Boss 84501
- announced 2018/11/06 - stay tunded for details ...
-
Revell 3028
- cooperative effort with Italeri
- turret front is wrong, and there are no mounts for the very nicely rendered appliqué armour
- a generally nice kit but when one considers the Meng and Takom 1A5s this one is starting to show its age
-
Italeri 6481
- a re-issue of Revell 3028
-
Meng TS-015
- read the Leopard Club review
- an injection molded kit with PE brass, clear molded parts (periscopes and headlight lenses),
pre-cut reflective foil (for the driver's rear view mirrors) and
individual link tracks (previously released as
SPS-016 and
reviewed here)
- the hull and suspension components are identical to those found in the previously released
Leopard 1A3/4 but the turret is completely new and very nicely done
- at present (2015/01/28) this is easily the best cast turret Leopard 1 kit available in 1:35
-
Takom 2004
- Leopard 1A5 / C2 2-in-1
- read the Leopard Club review
- this kit contains parts (and decals) used to depict either a 1A5 or a Canadian C2
- an injection molded kit with individual link workable tracks, photo etch and clear parts
- the tracks included are the rather nice Orochi Leopard 1 tracks (read the
Leopard Club review)
- a Yugoslavian sniper is included following Takom's practice of including a figure with each
of their armour kits
- decals include markings for a vehicle belonging to the 2nd Company of the 131st Tank Regiment
of the Italian Army serving as part of the KFOR 2000 (this fits with the sniper figure)
- the kit features working torsion bar suspension which may be posed dynamically
Leopard C1 MEXAS
-
Hobby Boss
84502
- a multi-media kit containing injection molded plastic, photo etch frets and clear parts
- looks to share a number of parts with the C2 MEXAS
Leopard C2
-
Hobby Boss
84503
- an injection molded kits with clear parts, 2 PE frets, individual link tracks and braided copper wire
- includes a full power pack (engine and transmission)

-
Hobby Boss 84504

- includes a full power pack (engine and transmission)
- very nicely done even if there are a few misakes
-
Hobby Boss
84557
- Leopard C2 MEXAS with TWMP (Track Width Mine Plough)
- pretty much the same kit as above but with a nicely done TWMP
-

- includes a dozer blade
-
Takom 2003
- read the Leopard Club review
- an injection molded kit with individual link workable tracks, photo etch and clear parts
- the tracks included are the rather nice Orochi Leopard 1 tracks (read the
Leopard Club review)
- contains a figure depicting an Afghan male holding an AK-47 and shooting a picture with his
smart phone
- contains all of the MEXAS modules need to represent a C2 as delivered
to KAF (Kandahar Airfield), but it is important to note that this does not represent an
operational vehicle
- the kit features working torsion bar suspension which may be posed dynamically
